Tomato pappu | Tomato Dal


Tomato pappu
  • Pressure cook Toor Dal, cut tomatoes, onions, green chilli, garlic, turmeric powder, chilli powder and water
  • For 3/4 cup toor dal => 3-4 tomatoes, half onion, 1 slit green chilli. Water should always be double the quantity of dal (Can add little extra though)
  • Once it is done, mix well -> turn on the flame to medium -> add tamarind water -> bring it to one boil
  • In parallel, prepare separate pan for tempering.
  • In tempering pan, add ghee or gingelly oil -> once it is hot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, chopped garlic, slit green chilli, dried red chilli and very little chilli powder.
  • Add the tempering to the cooked dal -> add coriander leaves and bring it to one boil.
  • Adjust salt and consistency at this stage before turning off.
